Self Hypnosis – How Do I Learn to do it?

Let’s say you want to hypnotize yourself for some reason; maybe to get rid of a bad habit such as smoking or maybe you feel too stressed and want to relax your mind. Do you know how to go about it or are you a first timer who has absolutely no idea about self hypnosis and wants to learn how to do it?  

 

Learning hypnosis from a book is not a very good idea because there are several questions you will want to ask and there should be someone to give you the answers. If you can find a professional hypnotist, fine. If not, maybe you are hoping to listen to a pre-recorded session that will guide you through the process. If that’s the case, prepare yourself before hand by noting what you hope to achieve by self hypnosis.

 

Be very firm and positive in your thinking. Instead of saying “I don’t want to do this or that” always repeat to yourself what you want to do; such as “I will go on a diet and make myself look slim and beautiful” rather than “I won’t eat chocolates” or I wont have second helpings” etc. In self hypnosis, implanting the idea in your mind in a positive way is very important.

 

Next you have to find a place where you will not be disturbed for at least 30 minutes. This will be the time of induction during the process of self hypnosis and you start by breathing deeply and allowing your muscles to relax. Let go of everything and let your body and mind relax as you prepare to hypnotize yourself. 

 

If you are being guided by a recording, this will be the time your mind will be induced with your suggestion. Remember, for self hypnosis, this recording can be of your own voice repeating the command over and over again or, in case your own voice does not work for you, you can get someone else to do the recording. 

 

Once the suggestion has been firmly implanted in your mind, you can end the session by simply opening your eyes and getting back to your normal routine. However, for self hypnosis, it’s always better to bring yourself out of the trance by saying something like “Now I know what must be done, it’s firmly implanted in my mind and I will wake up now feeling happy and relaxed.”
