Self Hypnosis, some say can turn out to be a dangerous tool in the wrong person’s hands. Could this be true? While we all know the benefits of self hypnosis and how powerful it is for self improvement and personal growth, unfortunately, there are many who are afraid of using self hypnosis as a result of the myths and wrong beliefs prevalent among many who are interested in the subject.
There are people who say they cannot be hypnotized against their will. But this actually is not true. Contrary to popular belief, the stronger and confident one is, the easier it is for him to harness the power of hypnotism rather than for a person who is weak willed and fearful.
Self hypnosis however is something you enter into voluntarily and no one is forcing you to do it. Whether the person concerned is strong enough to induce himself into a trance in order to reap the benefits, is quite another matter. You should have that deep need to want to better yourself by getting rid of your negative thoughts by replacing them with your positive thoughts and anticipated goals.
Now let’s take a look at those myths and fears that stop many from using self hypnosis. Just think of the number of times you leave the house, turn around, lock the door and put your keys in your pocket without realizing you have done any of that. You don’t consciously think about it most of the time, do you? How many times have you taken a ride on the subway not knowing what was going on around you, yet managed to get off the train and walk the distance to your office almost like on autopilot. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. There are many times during the day we just go about doing things we are supposed to do but not really conscious of what we are doing. That passage of unawareness is really a form of trance.
Another great fear which is also a myth is about being stuck in a state of hypnosis without being able to break free. We have the movies to thank for this bit of nonsense which is actually laughable. Can you imagine anyone going into a trance and being like that for the rest of their lives? If you induce self hypnosis and don’t come out of it, you will simply slip into a natural state of sleep from which you will awake feeling refreshed and energized.
While it is easier to reach the deep recesses of your mind when you are in a state of hypnotism, it is not possible to hypnotize yourself into doing something or performing some act which you would not normally do. Your ethics and moral values which are deeply embedded in you will not let you do something against your will, no matter in what kind of hypnotic trance you are in.
