Hypnotherapy Can Help You Move On with Your Life

Many people who feel they need therapy are suffering from psychosis of some kind or perhaps have had a traumatic experience at some point in their life. More often than not, the event occurred early in their childhood, and the memory has been repressed. Perhaps the manifestation of this issue results in an inability to enter into a relationship or a form of social retardation, such as difficulty in communicating with others. Whatever the current problem, the solution lies in identifying the root cause. Hypnotherapy draws out the suppressed memory or emotion that lies behind the actions and feelings, and once the initial issue is discovered, it is much easier for an individual to move on with his or her life.

Hypnotherapy is a common practice, used often to regress patients to the point in their lives at which the root of present issues began. For example, an irrational fear of heights or a severe case of vertigo could have been caused by an instance as a young child of falling from the roof of a house or watching someone else fall a great distance to their death. Because the event was traumatic and the human mind, like the body, exercises a sense of self-preservation, this memory has been repressed into the depths of the mind, but it has not been forgotten entirely.

During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist works backward from the present, discussing with the relaxed individual various experiences throughout life related to the vertigo or fear. Eventually, perhaps in a single session or over several, the therapist regresses the patient back to the day when he was four years old, climbing a tree, and fell when a branch cracked under his weight. Having identified the underlying cause of the fear or condition, the therapist can then assist in allaying the fear or healing the condition through a number of exercises that help the mind to accept what happened and move on.

Some of the most common repressed memories are related to abuse and violence, and many military personnel returning from war may have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Many of their experiences may be buried deep within their minds because it was necessary during the active war to preserve their sanity. However, as time goes on, such repressed memories may result in conditions such as severe paranoia. Hypnotherapy allows the individual suffering to release the memories and move forward with a normal life.

Hypnotherapy has a long list of benefits and can relieve the suffering of many, especially those with a history of repressed memories. Techniques vary but are all similar, and visiting a hypnotherapist can make a big difference in the quality of life for anyone whose condition or fear results from such trauma.
