If you were to ask what self hypnosis is the simple answer would be that it’s a sort of therapy induced by yourself to give you a feeling of mental and physical relaxation. It also creates a sense of well being and helps you to get rid of bad habits or even free yourself of chronic pain.

Learning self hypnosis from a book can be very frustrating, the best way to learn it would be from a hypnotist who will be able to teach you exactly how to go about it and what you should and should not do. A professional hypnotist will also answer your queries and help you to reach a level of understanding where you can be your own hypnotist.

If you have been trying to get rid of the habit of smoking, the power of influence created by a hypnotic trance induced by yourself will help you to achieve this. In fact, self hypnosis can be put into use for any type of self improvement and could even, with a high degree of experience and awareness, help in the cure of sicknesses, pain and unhealthy or bad habits.

What self hypnosis actually does is to let your mind go into a trance like state at which point you direct your suggestions to your subconscious mind to help you achieve your goals. Your goal may be to stop smoking, go on a diet or even to help you to concentrate on your studies. Once the command has been directed to your subconscious mind you will be doing all these things without the conscious involvement of your mind.

Like in everything else, hypnosis has it’s good points and its bad points; and you must always be careful what suggestions or commands you give your mind while in a trance. If a wrong command is directed, it could prove to be counterproductive; just remember that it is important for you to use conscious thought must be given when you prepare to carry out self hypnosis.

If you are a person prone to negative thoughts and find yourself becoming stressed, self hypnosis could be the answer. With the relaxation techniques and focusing you will be able to learn how to relax and get rid of all negative thoughts which in turn will help you to feel relaxed and focus only on the positive points in your life.

Let’s say you want to hypnotize yourself for some reason; maybe to get rid of a bad habit such as smoking or maybe you feel too stressed and want to relax your mind. Do you know how to go about it or are you a first timer who has absolutely no idea about self hypnosis and wants to learn how to do it?

Learning hypnosis from a book is not a very good idea because there are several questions you will want to ask and there should be someone to give you the answers. If you can find a professional hypnotist, fine. If not, maybe you are hoping to listen to a pre-recorded session that will guide you through the process. If that’s the case, prepare yourself before hand by noting what you hope to achieve by self hypnosis.

Be very firm and positive in your thinking. Instead of saying “I don’t want to do this or that” always repeat to yourself what you want to do; such as “I will go on a diet and make myself look slim and beautiful” rather than “I won’t eat chocolates” or I wont have second helpings” etc. In self hypnosis, implanting the idea in your mind in a positive way is very important.

Next you have to find a place where you will not be disturbed for at least 30 minutes. This will be the time of induction during the process of self hypnosis and you start by breathing deeply and allowing your muscles to relax. Let go of everything and let your body and mind relax as you prepare to hypnotize yourself.

If you are being guided by a recording, this will be the time your mind will be induced with your suggestion. Remember, for self hypnosis, this recording can be of your own voice repeating the command over and over again or, in case your own voice does not work for you, you can get someone else to do the recording.

Once the suggestion has been firmly implanted in your mind, you can end the session by simply opening your eyes and getting back to your normal routine. However, for self hypnosis, it’s always better to bring yourself out of the trance by saying something like “Now I know what must be done, it’s firmly implanted in my mind and I will wake up now feeling happy and relaxed.”

Self hypnosis is a way of controlling the mind by the person concerned to suit his or her own needs and whatever the gains are, it’s only for that particular person. Techniques that are applied in the process depends on the strengths and desires of the individual and help him or her to change for the better, while getting rid of negative thoughts and action.

Improving one’s level of confidence, overcoming fear, anxiety and panic attacks are some of the more common benefits of self hypnosis. Anger management is another positive achievement that can be made possible through.

What self hypnosis does in these cases is that it helps to push away the mental blocks created in a person’s mind by getting rid of them and filling the space with more positive thoughts. The inner calm it brings to your mind can help you to reach levels you never thought possible before, while your new level of mental strength and confidence will also help you to enhance your skills and discover new ones you never knew you had.

Losing weight, controlling pain or even curing serious sicknesses are some of the other benefits of this relaxation and focusing technique. When you learn to take control of your thoughts, everything becomes possible and through practice, a person could even learn to free themselves from addiction to drugs, drinks or cigarettes.

At the start you may find it difficult to go into a deep trance. That is due to your not knowing what will happen when you are in a state of self hypnosis. You will be anxious and not completely relaxed and the uncertainty will not let your mind focus on your goal. But if you keep on doing it, you will find it becomes easier to reach a deeper level of hypnosis.

With experience, however, your mind will become more focused on your goals which will induce happy and positive thoughts rather than on negative ones. When your mind is programmed to do so, as times goes by, you will become more relaxed, and at peace with yourself and have the ability to keep your emotions under control.

Through self hypnosis, you will be able to improve your life by accomplishing your goals and eliminate all negative aspects that so far have been a hindrance to your advancement and achievements in life.

Self Hypnosis, some say can turn out to be a dangerous tool in the wrong person’s hands. Could this be true? While we all know the benefits of self hypnosis and how powerful it is for self improvement and personal growth, unfortunately, there are many who are afraid of using self hypnosis as a result of the myths and wrong beliefs prevalent among many who are interested in the subject.

There are people who say they cannot be hypnotized against their will. But this actually is not true. Contrary to popular belief, the stronger and confident one is, the easier it is for him to harness the power of hypnotism rather than for a person who is weak willed and fearful.

Self hypnosis however is something you enter into voluntarily and no one is forcing you to do it. Whether the person concerned is strong enough to induce himself into a trance in order to reap the benefits, is quite another matter. You should have that deep need to want to better yourself by getting rid of your negative thoughts by replacing them with your positive thoughts and anticipated goals.

Now let’s take a look at those myths and fears that stop many from using self hypnosis. Just think of the number of times you leave the house, turn around, lock the door and put your keys in your pocket without realizing you have done any of that. You don’t consciously think about it most of the time, do you? How many times have you taken a ride on the subway not knowing what was going on around you, yet managed to get off the train and walk the distance to your office almost like on autopilot. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. There are many times during the day we just go about doing things we are supposed to do but not really conscious of what we are doing. That passage of unawareness is really a form of trance.

Another great fear which is also a myth is about being stuck in a state of hypnosis without being able to break free. We have the movies to thank for this bit of nonsense which is actually laughable. Can you imagine anyone going into a trance and being like that for the rest of their lives? If you induce self hypnosis and don’t come out of it, you will simply slip into a natural state of sleep from which you will awake feeling refreshed and energized.

While it is easier to reach the deep recesses of your mind when you are in a state of hypnotism, it is not possible to hypnotize yourself into doing something or performing some act which you would not normally do. Your ethics and moral values which are deeply embedded in you will not let you do something against your will, no matter in what kind of hypnotic trance you are in.
