‘Mind over matter‘. Now this might be an old saying but the fact is that our minds and brains can help us accomplish all sorts of things that we thought we could never do. Unfortunately, our minds can actually stop us being successful without us even being aware of it.
Our subconscious minds can make us overweight, unhappy, smokers, stressed or unable to sleep and we don’t even know that it is happening. If we don’t know that we are doing it then we are going to struggle to stop. This may all sound bizarre but let’s take weight loss as an example. If all that was needed to be slim was to eat less then we would all be the perfect weight, but the world is full of fat people who want to be slim.
If you start a diet you may feel hungry occasionally, but most overweight people don’t just eat when they are hungry so it is not our response to hunger that piles on the pounds. It is our learned response to a whole array of things. We are watching the TV so we eat a few biscuits, we are on the bus or in the car so we eat a bar of chocolate.
