The Origins Of True Hypnosis

January 29th, 2010

Self Hypnosis which can also be known as auto suggestion is a form of hypnosis that you can perform on yourself anywhere you wish. It gives you the opportunity to change aspects of yourself for the better. In order to perform self hypnosis your mind must be put into a state of total relaxation and you need to think positive thoughts and suggestions to yourself. By using this technique, one can literally re-programme your mind with positive thoughts.

Self Hypnosis has become increasingly popular over the last ten to fifteen years. The first real reference to hypnosis came from the ancient Greeks and Romans who followed up on previous research from the early Egyptians. This work was then followed by a series of discoveries and experiments by the German physician and astrologist, Dr Franz Anton Mesmer (1734 – 1815) who started with his theory of “animal magnetism”. Dr Mesmer believed that there was a power throughout the universe similar to the magnetic power of a lodestone. This in turn could lead to an overwhelming power of the human body. Dr Mesmer published his finding on self hypnosis in 1775, and this great a lot of interest throughout the world.

Dr Mesmer went on to teach his students the fascinated art of self hypnosis, and one particular student, Marquis Armond De Puysegur continued Dr Mesmer’s early work and managed to perfect the method used to create the somnambulistic state in which he could cure several different diseases without the imperfections shown in Dr Mesmer’s earlier work.

Hypnosis continued and was used in actual practice by Dr James Braid (1795 – 1860) in the United Kingdom in 1841. His work was a remarkable success and other physicians began to use the same techniques that Dr Braid had put together. Dr Braid is commonly known as the “Father of hypnosis” and it was Dr Braid who come up with the word “hypnosis”. He investigated the state of trance by carrying out a series of experiments on his close family. His original concept involved staring at a small luminous object and trying to induce a hypnotic state of mind. His results were overwhelming and showed that a sleep like state could be maintained, and he continued this until he found he could induce a state of trance by a simple suggestion.

Dr Braid is the reason why self hypnosis is around today, and his work has been carried forward by some many leading specialists throughout the world, and hypnosis is now widely used for lots of different types of pains and illnesses.

Is Hypnotherapy Real Or Is It Just All Nonsence

January 28th, 2010

Many people get confused about hypnosis and what hypnotherapy really is. It is important to remember that hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. In hypnosis, the subject is put into a trance like state, but is fully aware of the state that he or she is in, and can fully hear the therapist’s voice. The subject will remember the experience, and is not the same as stage hypnosis where you will often see subjects placed in a deep state of hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy itself began as far as 6,000 years ago by the ancient Egyptians who first discovered the possibility of suggestive thoughts. James Braid is known as “the father of hypnosis” and he discovered that patients could undergo medical operations with hypnotherapy taking the place of the traditional anesthetics.

Hypnotherapy itself is all about promoting healing and positive development in your body. It is about taping into ones subconscious mind, and re-programming it to reach their maximum inner potential. The subconscious mind covers around 80% of your brain in total, and has two functions, which are to record and remember all of your life experiences and to protect you from any fears you have in your mind.

With hypnotherapy it is possible to re-programme your mind and get rid of fears, phobias, traumatic issues, negative thoughts and much more. During the hypnosis state, your body begins to feel lighter and lighter, and you feel like your negative issues are falling out of your body. As you exhale, your negative emotions and thoughts exit the body, and as you inhale, these same thoughts return to your mind but they are positive.

Some people can be nervous or scared about using hypnotherapy to help with traumatic issues and it is important to remember that no-one can by hypnotised if they are not willing to allow it, or if they do not truly believe in hypnosis and the power of it. Generally speaking, around 90% of all people can be hypnotised. Generally speaking the best people for hypnosis are those who find it easy to concentrate, and those willing to believe in the power of hypnosis.

How To Carry Our Successful Self Hypnosis

January 27th, 2010

As previously discussed self hypnosis is simply a natural state of the mind where you can use positive suggestions to re-programme the way that your mind thinks.

One can use self hypnosis in just 30 minutes by using the following instructions as laid out below:

1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Within this quiet place, make sure you are sitting comfortably and you are totally relaxed. When one uses self hypnosis, it is important that you feel totally relaxed, and you clear all troubles from your mind.

2. Make sure you have time for self hypnosis. You will need around 30 minutes of quiet time.

3. Close your eyes, and eradicate your mind of any troubles, worries or stress. Try to clear your mind, and try and clear any bad feelings from your mind.

4. Release the tension and stress from your mind. Imagine that the tension and stress is falling away from your body and as this happens, you feel lighter and lighter.

5. Breathe slow and deep breaths. When you breathe out, imagine that you can see the negative energy and thoughts leaving your body, and when you inhale in, imagine this same air coming back recycled with positive thoughts and positive energy.

6. Continue to feel relaxed, and you should feel like your body is light and like you are floating on water. Maintain this state of mind start to think which problems you are wanting to address and the solutions you are looking from them.

7. Now tell yourself what change you wish to happen, and repeat this 4 to 5 times in your head. Imagine your life with this change and how it will change for the better.

8. Now, imagine yourself coming back to reality, but your body is now a lot lighter and filled with positive energy and thoughts. Take your time and open your eyes when you feel ready.

Self hypnosis is very easy to carry out, and you should use the above 8 steps to carry out successful hypnosis. It is very easy for one to re-programme their mind and to modify your behaviour. You can use this method as often as you like. The most important thing is identifying which aspects of yourself you want to change, and having that willingness to believe that change is possible.

Can Hypnotherapy Really Re-programme Your Mind

January 26th, 2010

Hypnotherapy is a type of psychological therapy that is applied to a subject in hypnosis. Hypnosis is simply a mental state of the mind where a set of thoughts and suggestions can be induced, which can lead to long and meaningful changes to that subject.

It is known as one the safest, fastest and extremely effective forms of treatment, which addresses the majority of psychological problems. It can help to address issues such as self-confidence, weight problems, addictions, pain and much more. Hypnotherapy was used in the 1880’s to remove pain from patients when they were having operations, and now today it is used in a variety of different fields such as medicine, dentistry and education.

The majority of all people can be hypnotised. Hypnotherapy targets your subconscious mind, and simply re-programmes your mind for the better. It can be used to gain access to one’s inner potential and try and re-programme one’s mind to reach their full potential.

Whilst there are many different forms of psychological therapies, hypnotherapy is unique in that it targets the subject’s subconscious mind. The therapist can then put suggestive ideas into the subjects mind during this sleep like state. The subject must be motivated to make these changes during hypnosis, and if followed correctly, hypnosis can change your life overnight. The subject must also feel totally comfortable with the therapist during hypnosis, and must be willing the following the instructions as advised by the therapist.

Hypnotherapy is a great medication for those subjects who wish to overcome traumatic past issues that they may otherwise block out. Hypnotherapy is able to identity the root of a traumatic issue and once it has been identified, the therapist can help the subject to release the emotion and anger behind the issue.

Hypnotherapy is also a great fundamental tool to overcome phobias. The reasoning behind this is that the majority of phobias are the result of past incidents that have occurred that one was not able to cope with effectively. Hypnotherapy techniques can be used to find out what issues lie behind your phobias, and then they can be applied to help emotional healing so that these issues can be coped with in a less emotional manner, and that they no longer become phobias.

Conquering insomnia with hypnosis

September 24th, 2009

There are two types of insomnia. The first type of insomnia is primary insomnia. Primary insomnia is caused by something that we can understand. For instance, a cause could be a bad habit or even an uncomfortable bed. Secondary insomnia on the other hand has its roots in medical causes such as depression, alcohol abuse, grief and stress. Transient insomnia is something that lasts for a period of no more than 2-3 days or 2-3 weeks.

Whatever the type of insomnia, or the cause, insomnia has the power to drain your life and affect your levels of concentration, energy and enjoyment. Persistent insomnia has also been attributed to mental health and depression.

This is where hypnosis is offering a natural yet powerful and effective tool in conquering insomnia. Hypnosis uses techniques that teach relaxation, plus focuses on what the reasons are for not being able to fall asleep. Hypnosis will help you once again control your sleeping patterns. Using positive thoughts to relax your mind and body is the root of hypnosis. What results are feelings of confidence; you are more organised and healthy. A healthy mind is equal to a healthy body when it comes to sleep.

Being able to identify which type of insomnia you suffer from will ensure that you are able to take whatever actions are necessary to conquer it. Whether your insomnia is caused by lack of exercise, by anxiety, stress and worry, or whether it is caused by lack of confidence, hypnosis has the power to reach each and every person.

Hypnotism has the ability to help you quit smoking

September 22nd, 2009

Hypnosis has been around for centuries, and has been used as a form of healing and mental help dating back to the mid 1700s. Therapists using hypnosis to help client stop smoking using rational behaviour techniques are able to help the process of stopping naturally, safely and effectively.

We weren’t born to smoke and stopping is not as hard as most people would believe it to be. It takes a long time to form the habit of smoking, and the difficulty in stopping comes with the process of swapping one habit for another. We find it easier to continue with what is familiar than we do to change to something that has now become unfamiliar. In this case, the ‘unfamiliar’ is not smoking.

A hypnotist will take you into a trance state. While in this state we are suggestible to new ideas, behaviours and experiences. Understanding the information you need before you undergo hypnotism will ensure that your mind is ready to accept the suggestion of being a non smoker.

Once your subconscious has accepted this suggestion there is a shift in perception. You are now no longer a smoker and, as such, you will respond to the world the same way non-smokers do. You will no longer feel you being deprived when you see someone smoking because this is no longer what you want.

In most cases, hypnotism is a quick process requiring only one or two sessions with a therapist. You do however need a good support system, and this is crucial if you don’t want to regress back into smoking again.

Self hypnosis is possible too, and you can easily learn how to guide yourself into a state where quitting smoking is possible.

Letting go of emotional baggage through hypnosis will help you lose weight

September 21st, 2009

For many, the temptation of a piece of cake is impossible to ignore. For many others the craving for fatty junk foods is impossible to overcome. What results is weight gain, and with weight gain comes emotions that are hard to ignore. The more we gain weight, the heavier our emotions weigh us down. These bad feelings make many turn again to inappropriate foods or inappropriate portions of food. This equals weight gain and it is this never-ending cycle that needs to be broken.

Overeating is emotional eating. Emotional baggage has been attributed to eating and eating is attributed to weight gain. Accepting yourself as who you are through hypnosis will help you to lose weight and keep it off. Being able to handle emotions in a constructive way that does not entail overeating can only come from inside us.

Putting hypnosis and weight loss together is as simple as learning to quieten the mind and gain self control. It is this self control that is needed to deal with emotions rather than the food itself.

Self hypnosis deals with the mind rather than the physical state. When the mind is in a relaxed and focused state that comes through hypnosis, we are able to accept positive suggestions more than we could when we are in a fully awake state.

What self hypnosis does is that it helps us

Stop overeating

Eat like any other normal person

Relax

Stay motivated

Feel good about ourselves and our body

Manage our emotions instead of letting them manage us

With hypnosis, you will be able to resolve any issues that are holding you back from changing your eating habits. Letting go of your emotional weight will result in the shedding of your physical weight.

Self hypnosis can stop smoking permanently

September 18th, 2009

Smoking is a bad habit. Apart from bad health and bad breath, smoking also has a negative affect on our finances and, in some cases, our relationships with others. There are also the effects of second hand smoke to consider. Second hand smoking has been attributed to lung cancer and heart diseases, and those afflicted have little in the way of recovery.

Yet many still find it difficult to quit. The reason for this is because most people believe that it is impossible for them to stop. Many have tried and many have failed, yet, with self hypnosis, quitting smoking is possible. When compared to the alternatives which include expensive patches or doctor’s visits, self hypnosis is a very effective way to stop smoking.

Self hypnosis CDs are not gimmicks. The benefit they provide is to teach proper techniques that will allow you to overcome the smoking habit. You will be able to use these tools and techniques on your own as a way to dig into your subconscious mind.

By finding a comfortable area in which to work on your subconscious, practising deep breathing techniques while listening to the recordings will produce results. Learning how to say no to cravings is the biggest obstacle yet and, with the aid of learning coping mechanisms through self hypnosis, you will soon stop smoking and start to feel better.

By doing everything right and utilising the tools self hypnosis teaches you will result in a healthier body and mind, a healthier family and a healthier world.

The incredible benefits of self hypnosis

September 16th, 2009

When medicine and willpower are not enough, or are being used as a crutch, it may be time to turn to self hypnosis. Self hypnosis has the power in its techniques to achieve and produce phenomenal life changes in many aspects of our lives. It is easy to learn this skill, and if each step is taken in the correct order hypnosis has the ability to completely change your life for the better.

Self hypnosis is a technique that directly programs your subconscious mind with positive affirmations and suggestions. These affirmations and suggestions would normally run through critical processes in the mind, but with self hypnosis this does not happen. The basis of self hypnosis is about relaxing both mind and body. During this time of relaxation you think positive thoughts and visualise positive situations while telling yourself how you are going to change your reactions to the situations you fear.

In today’s frenetic world we struggle to find balance, we are tired and irritable, angry, fearful and stressed. Finding balance is about inner peace and while some are lucky enough to find it, the majority simply can’t for various reasons.

This is where the benefits of self hypnosis become invaluable as a means of reaching our full potential. Self hypnosis has the power to help break through the barriers to inner peace such as disillusionment or mistrust, anger or insecurity.

By tapping into our subconscious where the root of these troubles resides, we are able to break free and find balance. We are able to change our lives by simply using our minds.
